Recreation

Recreation holds an interesting place in our society. While it’s easily pushed to the backburner in our busy lifestyles, recreation is usually what brings us the most joy. No matter the activity you choose to do, recreation is a chance to get in touch with nature, develop friendships and improve your health and fitness. It offers the opportunity to experience our community from a different perspective. Sometimes we slow things down, ambling on a hike through the woods or paddling on a lake. Sometimes we speed them up, flying through single-track on a mountain bike or downhill on skis. Whether you’re looking for thrills or solitude, there’s an outdoor activity to meet your needs.

The biggest problem in Minnesota is actually narrowing down all the choices. We’re blessed with a variety of sports and landscapes that draw people from all over the country. Yet for many of us, the ease of our usual trail, sport or group usually wins out. That’s why a guide like this is so important. It forces us to realize just how many things we’re missing. It can motivate us to get more involved in activities that we’ve always wanted to try, but somehow never found the time.

So challenge yourself. Take the time to find a new trail to blaze. Discover a new part of the state. Find a new group of people to explore with. Learn a new sport. Push your body to new heights. While it takes a little bit of effort to get started, you’ll be amazed at how quickly sports and recreation becomes a part of your lifestyle.
