Saint Cloud, Minnesota is a medium sized city with a growing economy, an abundance of parks, and a state university. The city has a population of approximately 67,000 people and resides 70 miles from Minneapolis-just a quick trip on Highway 94. Its location in Minnesota puts it in close proximity to many farms and thus local food sources, and the booming university is expanding environmental activism on campus.

Munsinger Clemens Botanical Society

Munsinger Clemens Botanical Society provides educational and social benefits for its members and the public. The 14-acre Munsinger gardens wase created in the 1930s. The Clemens Garden was developed primarily in the 1990s and is a collection of six different gardens: Virginia Clemens Rose Garden, Rest Area Garden, Formal Garden, White Garden, Perennial Garden, and the Treillage Garden.

Located two miles west of St. John’s University in scenic Collegeville, the Collegeville Orchards are a perfect place for apple and pumpkin picking, as well as a nice stop for honey, decorative corn, maple syrup, jams and jellies.

Dancing Bears Company

Jim and Mary Degiovanni operate Dancing Bears Company, a certified-organic small farm near the College of St. Benedict, St. John’s University, and the Lake Wobegon Trail. They grow fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs that are for sale at the farm and at the Saint Joseph’s Farmer’s Market. They also operate a Bed & Breakfast and bake artisan bread in an outdoor wood-fired brick oven, and raise free-range chicken and Icelandic sheep.
