November 4, 2017Grey Cloud Dunes SNA is one of those places you can hardly believe is in a metro area. Located in Cottage Grove, this highly protected Scientific and Natural Area (SNA) features two sandy terraces along the river.
Join Friends of the Mississippi River staff and volunteers in the SNA on Saturday, November 4, from 9-11 a.m. After a brief orientation, volunteers will help cut and haul invasive and nuisance brush from the worksite to make way for native habitat to thrive.
Capacity is limited and registration is required. Due to tool usage, including loppers and saws, this event is not suitable for youth.

November 9, 2017The University of Minnesota Sustainability Film Series presents Luen Hai: Decoding the Connection, a documentary that traces e-waste from Minnesota to China, filmed by students from St. John’s and St. Ben’s Extending the Link group. The screening will be followed by an expert panel discussing the implications and possibilities for reusing, repurposing, and dealing with electronic waste.

November 18, 2017Enjoy a crisp fall morning on Saturday, November 18th at Middle Creek, a tributary of the Vermillion River in Farmington. From 9-11 AM, Volunteers will assist Friends of the Mississippi River and the Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization with a unique planting project, live-staking.
Live-staking is a process where stem cuttings are harvested from dormant trees and inserted into the stream bank. The cuttings will grow into new trees, helping to reduce erosion while creating new areas of habitat.No experience is necessary. We'll provide all of the tools and training needed. However, due to the nature of work and tools used, this event is suitable for older elementary-aged students and up!
To ensure a high-quality experience, capacity is limited and pre-registration required.
