The Big River Art Contest connects students to the science, heritage, and stewardship of the Mississippi River through the practice of art. Each year hundreds of students submit artwork in one of three contest categories: The Mighty Mississippi, Caring for the River, and Big River Journey. Four contest winners are selected from each category and the artwork is displayed at various venues throughout the metro area. Visit the Science Museum of Minnesota, Fort Snelling State Park or North Mississippi Regional Park to see winning artwork from the past three years.

Visit www.nps.gov/miss to view all winning art, for contest rules, and to learn more about the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. The next Big River Art contest deadline is May 30, 2007.
